Tool Objective

The Antecedent-Behaviour-Consequence (ABC) charts help identify factors that can trigger or reinforce acute behavioural incidents. This information provides basis for developing a plan to help the person with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behaviours that challenge. An illustrative example is included.

The Developmental Disabilities Primary Care Program is currently in the process of updating this 2011 practice resource to reflect the Primary care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: 2018 Canadian consensus guidelines (Canadian Family Physician, Vol 64: April 2018). Updated practice resources are scheduled to be launched in October 2018.
