Tool Objective

This tool offers information for primary care providers on psychological assessments for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Specifically, the information assists clinicians in the following areas: understanding what psychological testing is; the different types of psychological testing; human and financial resources associated with psychological testing; and, when it is appropriate to refer people for psychological testing.

The Developmental Disabilities Primary Care Program is currently in the process of updating this 2011 practice resource to reflect the Primary care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: 2018 Canadian consensus guidelines (Canadian Family Physician, Vol 64: April 2018). Updated practice resources are scheduled to be launched in October 2018.
