Tool Objective

This tool was developed to help primary care providers in community and emergency department settings whose patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities are exhibiting crisis behaviours that requires rapid calming for safety reasons.

The Developmental Disabilities Primary Care Program is currently in the process of updating this 2011 practice resource to reflect the Primary care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: 2018 Canadian consensus guidelines (Canadian Family Physician, Vol 64: April 2018). Updated practice resources are scheduled to be launched in October 2018.
